India will be playing their opening match at ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai and enter the marquee event after completion of three-match ODI series. There has been a lot of debate going on whether Ishan Kishan will continue to play for the side and also who will play among Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Shami in the XI.

It is very certain that the skipper Rohit Sharma will open the innings for team India, but however the participation of Shubman Gill in this game looks very doubtful as he has been diagonosed with dengue fever hence if he isn't available to play this game then Ishan Kishan will be considered to open for team India.
Gill has been the only batsman to have smashed 1000-plus ODI runs in this calendar year (2023) and he is the only batsman to have smashed five ODI centuries in 2023.
