There have been a couple of instances in the history of international cricket when a Test match ended in a tie as the chasing side was bowled out just a run before achieving the target. However, there also was a situation where the Test match ended in a draw with both teams ending on a same score. Such a match took place between India and West Indies at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from November 22 to 26 in 2011.
Batting first, West Indies posted a mammoth 590 in the first innings with Darren Bravo top scoring with 166 runs off 284 balls, with his innings laced with 17 boundaries. Apart from him, Adrian Barath, Kraigg Brathwaite, Kirk Edwards and Marlon Samuels also scored half-centuries as the Windies crossed the 550-run mark. Ravichandran Ashwin was a star performer in the Indian bowling line-up, finishing with the figures of 5/156. Apart from that, Varun Aaron also took three wickets while Ishant Sharma and Pragyan Ojha scalped a wicket each.

In reply to West Indies’ 590 runs, India were bowled out for 482 runs, trailing by 108 runs in the first innings. Ravichandran Ashwin also shone with the bat with a knock of 103(118) runs with 15 fours and two sixes, along with the half-centuries by Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli. After that, West Indies were bowled out for 134 runs in the second innings, with Pragyan Ojha and Ashwin taking 6 wickets and 4 wickets respectively.
Chasing a target of 243 runs, India kept losing wickets at regular intervals with Virender Sehwag (60 off 65) and Virat Kohli (63 off 114) taking the innings forward. The match went down to the last over of the last day of the Test match with Ravichandran Ashwin and Varun Aaron. With two runs to win on the last ball, Ashwin got runout trying to steal a double as West Indies prevented India from chasing the target. With this, India versus West Indies Test match ended in a draw with both team getting the same score.
