British racer Lewis Hamilton went on to win the first-ever Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail International Circuit in Doha on November 21, 2021. After a clinical start from the pole position, Hamilton took control of the face and registered a dominant victory over title rival Max Verstappen. With this, the Mercedes driver also registered his second consecutive F1 win and was moved to eight points with two races left.
This was also the seventh win of the season for Lewis Hamilton along with 102nd career win surpassing Max Verstappen in the list. Talking about the race, Verstappen took an early lead jumping from the fourth position to the second position. However, Hamilton came in way to ruin his title lead. The British racer finished at the first position with 25 points table, while Verstappen came second with 19 points table.
Fernando Alonso returned to the podium after 2014
As Lewis Hamilton claimed the title win, Spanish racer Fernando Alonso also shared a moment of joy as the Alpine driver stepped into the podium for the first time after 2014. Alonso finished the race at the third spot with 15 points. Mexican racer Sergio Perez also finished in the fourth spot with 12 points, while his countrymate Esteban Ocon came fifth with 10 points. After winning the race, Lewis Hamilton expressed his emotions following back-to-back title wins.
“We needed those points today. I can’t wait to watch the race replay to find out what happened behind me. I’m really grateful for these points, it’s been a hell of a year. Back-to-back wins. I feel good, I feel fit, fitter than I’ve ever felt. Bring on the next two,” Lewis Hamilton was quoted as saying by Aljazeera.
