Indian para-shooters opened the medal tally at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Friday, August 30. Defending champion in the women’s 10m air rifle, Avani Lekhara successfully defended her gold medal at the Summer Paralympic Games on Friday after dominating the standings during the entire final of the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1.
The 25-year-old, who finished at second place in the qualification round, finished at the top place with a score of 249.6. With this gold medal win, she also etched a new Paralympics record, breaking Ukraine’s Iryna Shchetnik’s record of 627.5, which she set in the qualification round. Moreover, she also became the second Indian para-athlete to win multiple gold medals at the Paralympic Games.
At the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021, Avani became the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic gold medal after securing gold in the 10m air rifle standing. Meanwhile, she also became the first Indian female Paralympic athlete to win multiple medals in a single edition of the Paralympic Games.
Mona Agarwal wins bronze in women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 at Paris Paralympics
India’s Mona Agarwal, who secured seventh place finish in the qualification round, finished with a bronze medal on Friday, August 30. Mona Agarwal, who too has been in sublime form lately alongside Avani Lekhara, finished with a bronze with a score of 228.7.
Moreover, Korea’s Lee Yunri , who was tied for the final shot, clinched silver after scoring a 6.6 in the final shot.
