Indian ace archer Deepika Kumari advanced into the quarterfinal of women’s individual event at Paris Olympics 2024. Kumari clashed against world number 13 recurve archer Michelle Kroppen from Germany, and took down her rival 6-4 to secure her berth in the R/8 at Summer Games 2024.

The Indian veteran, making her fourth Olympics appearance in Paris, started off on a solid note. Deepika finished first set with three 9s and a total of 27. The second set between Indian and German archer finished in a tie as they both ended up scoring 27 points. In the third set, Deepika scored a crucial 10 on second shot and finished with 26 points while her rival came up with 25 points. 

As action moved to fourth set, Kroppen made a solid comeback and scored 29 points while Kumari trailed behind with 27 points. The score reached 5-3 in favour of Deepika, and their fifth and final set ended in a tie with 27 points and overall score to 6-4. With this, the Indian archer reached through to her second quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics 2024. 

Notably, Deepika started her campaign with a hard-fought victory against Estonia’s Reena Parnat and took her down 6-5. In the round of 32 clash, Deepika was up against Netherlands’ Quinty Roeffen and won the contest 6-2 after the Dutch archer shot off the target in third set. Earlier, she became the second Indian archer to qualify for round of 16 in the women’s individual archery event, and was later joined by compatriot Bhajan Kaur.
