Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat suffered a crushing defeat by technical superiority against top-seeded Rei Higuchi in the Men's 57 kg freestyle event in the Paris Olympics 2024. Sehrawat completed a dominant 12-0 victory by technical superiority over fourth-seeded Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakarov in the quarterfinal.
The 21-year-old also registered an incredible 10-0 win over North Macedonia's Vladimir Egorov. In the semi-final, Aman had a steady start until Higuchi pinned down the Indian to gain a four-point lead. The top-seeded competitor put a leg hold on the 21-year-old which gave him two more points.
Higuchi once again pinned down Aman again to win two more points and then a rollover ended the bout in just over two minutes as the Indian conceded a 10-point and had to settle for defeat by technical superiority. Sehrawat will play for a bronze medal on August 9 against Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico.
The Indian wrestling contingent has had a horrific Summer Games as Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the final of the Women's 50 kg freestyle event after failing to make weight. Nisha Dahiya suffered an arm injury in her bout which resulted in her defeat and one of the favourites, Antim Phagal, was knocked out with a 0-10 loss in her opening round. Similarly, earlier today, Anshu Malik also lost in 1st round.
