Sunrisers Hyderabad continued their winning form after defeating the Punjab Kings in a thrilling two-run victory at t he new Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur near Chandigarh. With this victory, Hyderabad consolidated their fifth place on the points table as they have six points from five games with a net run rate of +0.344.
Returning to the match, Punjab Kings won the toss and invited Sunrisers to bat first. Justifying this call, Arshdeep Singh and Sam Curran had a brilliant opening burst and reduced SRH to 64-4 in the first ten overs. But rescuing SRH, youngster Nitish Kumar Reddy smashed a brilliant 64 in 37 balls with four fours and five sixes and helped take the total to 182.
Arshdeep was the star for the Kings with the ball as he picked up four wickets while giving away just 29 runs. Coming to the second innings, Punjab also struggled with the new ball as they were reduced to 58-4 in 9.1 overs. Once against stepping up to carry Punjab out of trouble, Shashank Singh put on a show alongside cameos from Sikandar Raza, Jitesh Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma.
In the end, with 29 left to get in the final over, Ashutosh and Shashank nearly pulled off another nail-biting win but fell two runs short as they only managed 26 runs. Singh remained not out at 46 in 25 balls with six fours and one six while Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with his 2-32.
