The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday, July 22, clarified that they aim to focus on hosting the upcoming ICC major in Champions Trophy after no dialogues were addressed on the matter at the recently concluded Annual General Meeting (AGM). The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday concluded the four-day AGM, addressing several points including the expansion of the Women’s T20 World Cup from 12 to 16-team tournament.
However, there weren’t any discussions held regarding India’s participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy, which is set to take place in February-March 2025 in Pakistan. “It wasn’t on the agenda so it wasn’t brought up or discussed during the Annual General Meeting,” said a PCB official who was part of the meeting, as quoted by AGM.
Moreover, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official also confirmed that there was no dialogue between the Indian board and PCB. “It isn’t a bilateral where two boards will hold discussions. No dialogue happened between us and PCB on the Champions Trophy. Since it wasn’t on any of the agendas, it wasn’t discussed during the AGM too. It is still time away and ICC will handle it,” the BCCI official added.
PCB to focus on holding Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan
The PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi also opened up of focusing on holding the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan after the International Cricket Council (ICC) approved budget for the upcoming tournament. “There is no such proposal on the table or under consideration because right now the biggest challenge for us is to organise the Champions Trophy in a befitting manner and we also have a packed international schedule,” a reliable source said.
