New Zealand created history as they defeated India by 3-0 in a three-match Test series. With this, New Zealand not only won their first-ever Test series in India, but also became the first visiting team to whitewash India in India in a three-match Test series. After setting a target of 147 runs for India to win, Ajaz Patel, along with Glenn Phillips, destroyed the Indian batting lineup as the left-arm spinner took a six-wicket haul, and secured a famous clean-sweep win against India.

After winning the first two Test matches, New Zealand trailed by 28 runs in the first innings of the third and the final Test at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After that, the visitors couldn’t set a big target for India as they were bowled out for 174 runs in the second innings with Will Young top scoring with 51(100) runs. For India, Ravindra Jadeja shone with the figures of 5/55.

Ajaz Patel took six wickets in second innings of third Test against India

Coming to chase the target of 147 runs, India had a disastrous start as the hosts lost five wickets for just 29 runs. Ajaz Patel took big wickets of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Sarfaraz Khan. However,  Rishabh Pant ignited a ray of hope for the Indian fans with his second consecutive half-century in the Test match. The wicketkeeper scored 64 runs off 57 balls, before Ajaz Patel struck against to dismiss him at the score of 106 runs.

After the fall of Rishabh Pant’s wicket, India kept losing wickets against and were bowled out for 121 runs. Ajaz Patel dismissed Washington Sundar to complete his six-wicket haul and script a Test series whitewash against India. The left-arm spinner registered figures of 6/57 in the second innings after picking up five wickets in the first innigns. Apart from him, Glenn Phillips also took three wickets, while Matt Henry put one in his bag.
