Australia’s fierce batter Travis Head smacked the joint-fastest fifty for his side in T20Is. Head achieved the feat during the first match of the three-match T20I series on Wednesday, September 4, at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh. During the match, Head was in red-hot form and showed no mercy on the Scottish bowlers, as he went on to score 80 runs off 25 deliveries with 12 fours and five sixes.
Australia were set to chase an easy target of 155 runs as they restricted their rivals to 154 with the loss of nine wickets. On Scotland’s side, opening batter George Munsey remained top-scorer with his score of 16-ball 28. His knock was followed by wicketkeeper batter Matthew Cross with 27 runs, skipper Richie Berrington’s 23 runs and Brandon McMullen’s 19 runs. On Australia’s side, Sean Abbott scalped three wickets while Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa picked two each.
In return, Australia had an unwanted start as opener Jake Fraser-McGurk was forced to walk back to the pavilion on 0 runs. Marsh then joined Head and the duo went on to launch a brilliant counterattack. Head seemed to be in his red-hot form as he used only 17 balls to reach half-century, which is the joint quickest by an Australian batter in the shortest format.
Owing to the second-wicket partnership between Head and Mitchell Marsh, Australia managed to score 113/1 by the end of the batting powerplay, which is the highest score by a team in the 20-over format. Marsh scored 29 runs off 12 balls with a combination of five boundaries and three sixes, whereas Head remained Australia’s top-scorer with his 80 runs off 25 balls, with a combination of 12 boundaries and five sixes.
