After the news of Rafael Nadal playing at the Monte Carlos Masters was confirmed by the Tournament Director David Massey, the 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal shared an update on the same on Tuesday (April 4). In a tweet, the Spaniard confirmed that he will miss the Monte Carlo Masters.
In a post, he confirmed that he has failed to recover in time for the Masters and will thus miss the tournament. Nadal, who has won the Monte Carlo title 11 times, wrote, “Hi everyone, I’m still not ready to compete at the highest level. I will not be able to play in one of the most important tournaments of my career, Monte Carlo. I am not yet in a position to play maximum guarantees and I continue my preparation process, hoping to return soon.”
The 36-year-old was forced to miss the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells last month and even the recently concluded Miami Open. The Spaniard sustained a hip injury during his 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 loss against Mackenzie McDonald at the Australian Open 2023.
This year’s Rolex Monte Carlo Masters will take place from April 9-16, 2023 at the Monte Carlo Country Club in Monaco.
