Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin came up with a hilarious reply to a fan on X(formerly known as Twitter) who accused Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah for ball tampering during the fifth Test of 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney. Notably, a fan shared a video on X, where an undisclosed item fell on the ground when Bumrah took out his shoes.

Sharing a clip from that video, a fan shared a post on X with a caption “Breaking: India are being investigated by the ICC for ball tampering. This comes after an undisclosed item fell out of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s shoe.” The post got a reply from none other than Ravichandran Ashwin as the former cricketer wrote, “That’s a finger protection pad” with laughing emojis.

Jasprit Bumrah wins player of the series award as India fail to retain BGT

Talking about the match, Australia defeated India by six wickets in Sydney, to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years. Coming out victorious in 2017, 2018-19, 2020-21 and 2023, India failed to retain the BGT this time. However, Jasprit Bumrah ended up winning the player of the series award for his extraordinary performance down under. The right-arm pacer equalled Harbhajan Singh’s record for taking most wickets in a single BGT series with 32 scalps.

However, Jasprit Bumrah has been diagnosed with back spasm, and didn’t come to field during the second innings of Australia in Sydney. The fast bowler left the field during the first innings, and was taken to the hospital for scans. However, he came to bat in the second innings, but opted not to bowl to avoid any further injury. India have now lost the Border-Gavaskar after 10 years. There next assignment for them will be an home white-ball sereis against England ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
