Fans of legendary South Africa pacer Dale Steyn were unhappy and perplexed when the player had pulled out of IPL 2021. Post the decision, Steyn played for Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League this year, which got postponed midway due to rising cases of coronavirus in the tournament. Meanwhile, the player also received a lot of flak after stating that PSL was "more rewarding" than IPL. However, he later clarified that his words "were never intended to be degrading, insulting or comparing of any leagues" and issued an apology for the ones who were upset with the news, which according to him was made "out of context".

Steyn reveals the reason behind skipping IPL 2021

During a Q&A session on Friday, Steyn revealed that he decided not to participate in IPL as he might not get to play a game even if he gets selected. However, he admitted that IPL is still the "most biggest and most obvious goals" for other cricketers.

Steyn has played 95 matches so far and has taken 97 wickets at an economy of 6.91. His bowling average is 25.85 with the best figures being 3/8.

The pacer is a part of IPL since the inaugural edition of the mega event in 2008. For the first three seasons, he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He then moved to now-defunct Deccan Chargers for the next two editions. From 2013 to 2015, Steyn was a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad. He then joined the now defunct side Gujarat Lions in 2016 before moving to his old franchise RCB again in 2019 and playing IPL 2020 as well for them before pulling out of the upcoming edition of the tournament.
