In a big news from the Indian cricket circuit, Rohit Sharma has been named as the captain of One Day Internationals (ODIs) replacing Virat Kohli at the helm. While earlier Rohit had been trusted for the same in the T20Is after Virat's decision to step down as the skipper in the shortest format, the selectors perhaps have Rohit in their mind for the next ODI World Cup in 2023 and wanted to give him time to prepare for the same.
In addition, two separate white-call captains wasn't an easy dynamic to work with which worked in Rohit's favour. Virat, however, will continue to lead the Team in Test matches in which he is among the top leaders in the world and has played a key role in transforming the brand of Indian cricket.
The decision was taken by the Chetan Sharma-led selection panel who met ahead of India's South Africa tour.

Prior to the meeting, a BCCI official had already hinted at Rohit being named the skipper.
"As of now, it looks difficult that Virat would be able to keep his ODI captaincy but since ODI isn’t important this year with very few matches here and there, one can think of delaying the decision," a senior BCCI official had told The Indian Express.
"But the counter-argument is that why do you want to have separate ideas for two formats and if majority of people in charge of making decision feel that Rohit is the man going forward and will get time to prepare a team for 2023 event," the source had added.
