India’s star tennis player Sania Mirza is set to participate in the prestigious Wimbledon 2023, which is set to begin from July 3, Monday. Mirza, who hanged her racquet earlier this year will be back in the championship to play in the Ladies Legends Invitation Doubles category where she will partner with Great Britain’s Johanna Konta. The Indian tennis great played her last match at the Dubai Tennis Championship alongside Madison Keys in February this year.

The former doubles World No. 1 has participated in a couple of matches in Hyderabad since then. The news of her participation in the tournament was confirmed by her father and coach Imran Mirza on Twitter. His tweet read, @MirzaSania to partner @JohannaKonta in Ladies Legends Invitation Doubles @Wimbledon 2023.” Mirza and her partner Konta are placed in group B of the event, which also features names like Kim Clijsters, Martina Hingis, Francesca Schiavone and Roberta Vinci. 

The other groups in the event will feature the likes of Caroline Wozniacki, who announced her comeback from retirement, along with the 10-time Grand Slam champion Cara Black, Daniela Hantuchova, Laura Robson, Li Na and Agnieszka Radwanska. Other big, retired  names that are participating in the tournament are Martina Hingis, the 20-time Grand Slam doubles champion, as well as the four-time Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters. 

Speaking of India’s participation at the Wimbledon 2023 season, ace tennis player Rohan Bopanna is representing the nation and will partner with Matthew Ebden in the men’s doubles event. The pair will lock horns with Guillermo Duran and Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first round of men’s doubles. The 43-year-old Indian tennis star has announced that he will retire from the Davis Cup at the end of the year to focus on ATP events till the time his body allows.
