The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is all set to take place entirely in India in four months’ time and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing to host the marquee event in best possible manner. Notably, it is for the first time that India will host the mega tournament entirely in the Indian peninsula after partially hosting them earlier in 1987, 1996 and 2011.

However, it is to be noted that the 50-over World Cup will clash with the postponed Asian Games, which have been rescheduled to be held this year in Hangzhou, China in September-October. While the BCCI is also preparing to play the best possible side for the World Cup, they also eyeing to field teams, both men and women's for the Asian Games 2023.

As far as reports are to be believed, it is being said that Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan could make a comeback in the Indian colours. According to PTI, a senior member of the Indian team is likely to make a comeback. A report in the PTI suggests Dhawan might lead the side for the quadrennial tournament while the main teams prepare for the World Cup.

“Shikhar Shawan’s name is doing rounds as the captain of the India B team that will take part in the quadrennial extravaganza,” PTI was quoted by Hindustan Times. Additionally, the BCCI is likely to play the main team lead by Harmanpreet Kaur in the women’s side.

Shikhar Dhawan last played for India in ODIs against Bangladesh in December 2022. He is also not part of the ODI side for the upcoming West Indies tour, scheduled to take place in July-August.
