Indian star cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the ongoing 3-match ODI series against England. The 26-year-old suffered a shoulder injury while making a diving effort to save a boundary during the 1st ODI. Iyer was taken off the field as he looked in severe pain. BCCI confirmed that he was later taken for further scans on Tuesday to get complete overview of the extent of his injury.

Iyer out of IPL 2021?

As per BCCI sources, it has now been confirmed that Iyer is set to miss the remainder of the ODI series. To add on to the problems, the Delhi Capitals skipper could also miss the initial part of IPL 2021. Reflecting on Iyer's injury, a sports medical expert said, "In medical terms, subluxation of shoulder means partial dislocation and can be fixed in two-three weeks, but that would mean risk of reoccurrence. If the scans are not good, one requires surgery too, which means two months off.”

Who will replace Iyer in 2nd ODI?

The middle-order batsman has been in sensational form off late. Iyer scored 121 runs in the 5-match T20I series and was India's second highest run-getter in the series. Although he scored only 6 runs in the 1st ODI, he has been India's preferred choice at No. 4 in this format for quite some time.

With a spot opening up in Iyer's absence, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav could be the two possible replacements for him in the second ODI. Both Pant and Yadav are coming on the back of impressive performances in Test and T20I series respectively and would be raring to go out on field. There is also a possibility that both the players could get a place in playing XI, if in case Rohit Sharma is also ruled out of the second contest.
