According to an official statement from FC Barcelona, Jordi Cruyff will not extend his contract with the team. Cruyff will not extend his current contract, Barca confirmed in a press release distributed to the media on Tuesday afternoon, citing "the desire to undertake new professional projects."

In Tuesday afternoon's announcement, the club thanked him for his contributions thus far and his dedication to the group. Cruyff, like Alemany, will continue to work on market operations until they are closed, at which point his employment with the club will come to an end.

Cruyff has been one of Xavi's supporters at the club, and the two have collaborated in the market, but recent tensions between the two have surfaced. Cruyff's decision appears to have been influenced by the apparent power shift at Barcelona, which was precipitated by Alemany's departure, with the perception that he no longer commands as much respect at the club.

The club thanked the Dutch coach in a statement which said  “ In his two seasons here, Cruyff has played an important role in the reconstruction of the first team with some extremely wise decisions. He has also shown a fine capacity for forging good relationships with the club's coaching staff. FC Barcelona wishes to thank Jordi Cruyff for his important contributions as a member of the Sports Commission and wishes him all the very best of fortune in his future professional career.”

The club hasn't announced a replacement for Jordi Cruyff yet and it will be interesting to see who the club elects as the next sporting director. Barcelona had a great La Liga season as they won their 27th title after their game against Espanyol.
