
The runners-up of the previous edition, Sunrisers Hyderabad have started their IPL 2025 campaign with a huge win over Rajasthan Royals in the second match of the season at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After smashing the second highest IPL total, SRH defeated RR by 44 runs to kickstart their campaign with a bang with Ishan Kishan smashing his maiden IPL ton in his debut match for SRH. Batting first, SRH posted a mammoth total of 286/6 in their 20 overs. In reply, RR also gave a tough fight with the bat but were restricted to 242/6 in 20 overs.
Coming to bat first after losing the toss, SRH got a great start as Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added 45 runs for the first wicket in 3.1 overs. Abhishek got out after a quickfire 24(11) runs. After that, Head and Ishan Kishan took charge of the innings and put up a partnership of 85 runs. Head got out after smashing 67 runs off 31 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes. Apart from that, Nitish Kumar Reddy (30 off 15) and Heinrich Klaasen (34 off 14) also contributed with quickfire knocks in the middle overs. In the end, Kishan remained unbeaten on 106*(47) runs, hitting 11 fours and six sixes. For RR, Tushar Deshpander took three scalps, Maheesh Theekshan took two, while Sandeep Sharma put one in his bag.
Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel’s effort goes vain
Chasing the winning target, Rajasthan Royals were also looking for a quickfire start as they lost three wickets for 50 runs in 4.1 overs. After that, Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel put up a partnership of 111 runs for the fourth wicket. Coming in as an impact player, Samson scored 66(37) runs while Jurel contributed with 70(35) runs.
Apart from that, Shimron Hetmyer also scored 42(23) runs while Shubham Dubey remained unbeaten on 34(11) runs. However, despite all these efforts, the target was so big for RR as they ended up on the losing side despite scoring 242 runs in their 20 overs. For SRH, Simarjeet Singh and and Harshal Patel scalped two wickets each while Mohammed Shami and Adam Zampa scalped a wicket each.
