The Sri Lanka Court of Appeal has made a bold step to overturn the decision of the Sri Lanka Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe. The Court of Appeal has issued a stay order against the order by Sports Minister of the country on the appointment of the interim committee, consisting of seven members, which includes former World Cup winning captain, three judges among others.

The Court appealed to hear the petition filed by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva challenging the Gazette notification. In the order, the Court of Appeal suspended the functions of the SLC interim committee appointed by the Sports Minister for a period of 14 days. As reported by the Sri Lanka news wire, President Ranil Wickremesinghe was unaware of the decision to appoint the interim committee.

It is to be noted that these scenarios have come into picture after Sri Lanka’s humiliating thrashing against India at the ongoing CWC 2023. Earlier on November 3, Sri Lanka Cricket had called for an urgent and comprehensive explanation from the entire coaching staff and selectors after team’s dismal outing at the ongoing ODI World Cup.

The series of events also included Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mohan de Silva resign on Saturday, November 4, who held the second-highest position in the board after protesters coming in numbers outside SLC’s headquarters.
