In Australia's previous Test series against Pakistan, storied opener David Warner announced his retirement from the longest-format and the ODIs. The Aussies clinched the series 3-0 but an opening was created at the top of the batting order.
Addressing Warner's possible replacement, The Sydney Morning Herald claimed that Cameron Green and Steve Smith are being considered to partner Usman Khawaja. But The Herald Sun's recent report stated that Smith is set to open the innings while Green will return to his preferred number four position in the order in Adelaide next week.
Cricket.com.au also claimed that selectors are set to announce the squad for the West Indies series on Wednesday, January 10, and will clarify who will replace David Warner as one of the two openers. Further, the publication stated that Australia will opt for a non-specialist opener to accompany Khawaja at the top of the batting order.
