In their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who are the runners-up from last season, nearly overhauled the highest team total in the league’s illustrious 17-year history. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, SRH posted a mammoth total of 286/6 on the board at the expense of hapless Rajasthan Royals (RR), missing out on equalling the highest team total in IPL by a run.
Notably, SRH already have the highest team total in the IPL to their name, which came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the last season when they scored 287/3 in their allotted overs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. And now, with their batting exploits at the start of the IPL 2025 season, SRH now have four of the five highest team totals in IPL history.
The main architect of SRH’s innings was Ishan Kishan, who scored an unbeaten 106 runs off 47 balls with 11 fours and six maximums on his debut for the franchise. Travis Head, who had set the stage alight in SRH colours last season, scored a fiery 67 runs off 31 balls with nine fours and three sixes, while the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Nitish Kumar Reddy made significant contributions against RR as well.
