Indian cricket team registered their first loss in a decade against England at home on Sunday, January 28. England, under Ben Stokes, defeated India by 28 runs in the first of five Test series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad to take a 1-0 lead in the Test series. Before this, India hadn’t lost in 14 series on home soil since England’s 2-1 win in 2012. India’s defeat came as a shock for home fans as Rohit Sharma and Co. had a 190-run lead in the first innings.

However, the remarkable effort put in by England batters, including Ollie Pope (196) and Ben Foakes (34), Rehan Ahmed (28), and Hartley (34) helped England reach 420 in their second innings. The visitors set a 231-run target for their guests to chase, which seemed decent for the home side. However, debutant Tom Hartley did his magic and picked a seven-wicket haul to wrap up their rivals on 202 runs within 70 overs.
