The defending champions India bowed out of the Thomas Cup 2024  after losing to the hosts China in the quarter-final tie 1-3 at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre Gymnasium. Lakshya Sen was the only winner out of the four matches, defeating Li Shing Feng, but the other players in the Indian men’s badminton team didn’t live up to the expectations.

In the first match of the Thomas Cup 2024 quarter-final tie, Shi Yu Qi and HS Prannoy had a pulsating battle, going to the third and the deciding game. But, the Chinese shuttler, who pulled out of the match 15-21, 21-11, 21-14, to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The first men’s doubles match of the tie had Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty fight tooth-and-nail against Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang. It ultimately came down to the decider, which the Chinese pairing found a way to clinch, winning the match 21-15, 11-21, 21-12, to secure a 2-0 lead for their team.

Team India got back into the Thomas Cup 2024 quarter-final tie through Lakshya Sen, who was involved in a great match against Li Shing Feng. It went down to the decider once more, which Sen managed to win, unlike his compatriots, with the scoreline reading 13-21, 21-8, 21-14, to make it 1-2 for the Indians.

In the second men’s doubles match, Dhruv Kapila and Arjun MR had the tough task of keeping India in the Thomas Cup 2024 tie. But they lost to Hen Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu of China in straight games 21-10, 21-10, which meant that the Indian campaign at the tournament came to a tough end.
