Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), along with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are set to host the Asia Cup 2023, scheduled to commence on August 30. Pakistan will take on Nepal in the season opener at the Multan Cricket Stadium, whereas the co-hosts will begin their campaign on August 31 in a game against Bangladesh. On August 9, Wednesday, the Pakistan Board announced the squad for the series against Afghanistan, followed by the marquee event.
In the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup, here are three names that will be under the scanners of many.
1. Babar Azam
Babar Azam is set to lead the Men in Green in the upcoming ACC event. Azam is currently the top-ranked batter in the ICC Men's ODI Batters Rankings with a total of 886 points. Not only this, but Azam is the only player to be in the top five across all formats. The 28-year-old has also been in red-hot form in the ongoing Lanka Premier League, where he is part of Colombo Strikers.
Azam is the top scorer of the league, where he has amassed 235 runs in five games so far, averaging 47. It goes without saying that Azam is undoubtedly one of the greatest batters so far, and hence, it can be said that the Asia Cup hosts have made a safe choice.
