Tim Paine has stepped down as Australia’s Test skipper following revelations of a ‘sexting’ incident. Paine has been accused of inappropriate conduct by a former Cricket Tasmania employee. According to reports, the wicket-keeper is being investigated over sending an explicit image to a female co-worker along with lewd messages four years ago.
Paine made the announcement in a press conference in Hobart on Friday.
"Today, I've announced my decision to stand down as the captain of the Australian men's Test team. It's an incredibly difficult decision, but the right one for me, my family, and cricket," Paine said as he read out a statement.

CA Chair Richard Freudenstein said, “Tim felt it was in the best interests of his family and Australian cricket to take this decision to step down as captain. The board has accepted Tim’s resignation and will now work through a process with the National Selection Panel of identifying and appointing a new captain."
“While the board acknowledges an investigation cleared Tim of any breach of the code of conduct regarding this matter some years ago, we respect his decision. CA does not condone this type of language or behaviour. Tim will continue to be available for selection in the test team through the Ashes summer," Freudenstein concluded.
Pat Cummins likely to lead Australia in upcoming Ashes
Veteran pacer Pat Cummins is likely to take over the captaincy role of the side just three weeks before the first Ashes Test. Cummins will become Australia's 47th Test captain and the first fast bowler to lead an Australian Test team in 65 years.
