Indian batting icon Virat Kohli said that equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries is a special achievement for him. Kohli hit his 49th ODI ton on November 5 against South Africa in ODI World Cup 2023. With this achievement, he equalled cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record. India locked horns with South Africa in the 37th clash of the ICC mega-event.

Kohli played a fiery knock of 101* runs off 121 balls to guide the team's score to 326 runs. The 35-year-old cricketer was awarded Player of the Match for his inning. During the post-match ceremony, the cricketer was asked how he felt about Tendulkar’s record, to which he said that it felt very special. Kohli said during the post-match presentation, “To equal my hero’s record is something special for me.”
Not only this, but the former India skipper also said that to get appreciated from him means a lot to him. Kohli added, “I know where I come from, I know the days I have watched him on TV. Just to get that appreciation from him means a lot to me. I’m just happy that God has blessed me with that enjoyment. I’m just happy that I’m being able to do what I have done over all these years.”
Speaking of the match, the hosts handed South Africa their biggest defeat in ODI cricket as they beat the Proteas by a margin of 263 runs. With this win, Rohit Sharma and Co. recorded their eighth consecutive win in the tournament. In their last league match of the season, they will lock horns with the Netherlands on November 12.
