During the match between Trent Rockets and Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred 2023, England’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore was spotted wearing an unusual thing around his neck while batting. This was the first time that a player was spotted wearing a ‘Q-Collar’, which is often said to be used in football matches.

The picture of the 29-year-old English cricketer is now doing rounds on social media. Earlier, this device was also spotted at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, where two of the players were seen wearing it around their neck.

What is a Q-Collar?

Notably, the Q-Collar is a band like device which is usually worn around the neck to avoid brain damage while on the field. The collar is said to add a slight pressure to the jugular veins which carry the blood from the brain back to the heart. The band adds some pressure that helps increase the blood flow, avoiding less movement.

Additionally, the device is said to make a difference in approach of players towards the game as it protects while going for risky tackles, avoiding serious injuries. The Q-Collar is often worn by players in football and NFL.

In a game of cricket, a helmet is a must for a player as per the ICC laws, with more of concussion cases coming up. However, a law on whether a player can wear a device like Q Collar in international matches is yet not defined by the ICC.
