Former Australian cricketer and World Cup winner Tom Moddy is reportedly aiming for the head coach job of the Indian cricket team as the incumbent Ravi Shastri is likely to step down from the post after the 2021 T20 World Cup. A report stated that SunRisers Hyderabad’s director of cricket Tom Moody has a desire to replace Shastri in his position and even signaled that the sacking of David Warner from the SRH setup in IPL 2021 might be a part of Moody’s such interest.

It has to be noted that there is no official confirmation on whether Ravi Shastri would step down as India’s head coach after his contract ends after the T20 World Cup, but he has hinted that he might leave the job after the marquee event in UAE and Oman. According to reports, there have been some highly popular names in the pipeline for the post of Indian cricket team’s head coach and Moody is believed to be among them.

SRH have high influence in BCCI: Report

A report by foxsports.com.au stated that SunRisers Hyderabad believably have influence in the BCCI, which could be the reason why Warner was dropped and SRH turned towards the young Indian talent. “It’s believed the SunRisers’ owners are influential figures in the BCCI, which could explain the decision to leave Warner out for their past half-a-dozen matches and turn to youth,” the US media company reported. It also cited former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar saying that there can be non-cricketing reason to drop David Warner from the SRH setup.

Moody have had desire to become India’s coach since long

As per reports, the former Australian player has had desire to become India’s head coach since a long time. Moody has been interested to take India’s head coach role since 2005 and was among those personalities in 2017 and 2019 which were shortlisted for the post. He has led the Sri Lankan team to the final of 2007 ODI World Cup and has also led the SunRisers Hyderabad to their maiden title in 2016 with Warner as skipper.

However, it will be interesting to see whether Shastri will officially leave his head coach post and if so, who will carry on the team further for an equally brighter future ahead.
