The top seven teams from the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. These seven teams will be joined by Pakistan, who will host the 50-over marquee tournament in two years. The Men in Green are also the defending champions as they took down arch-rivals in India in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy to win the event for the first time.

The development was confirmed by an ICC spokesperson in a report by ESPNcricinfo, who shared that the qualification system for the 2025 Champions Trophy was approved by the ICC Board in 2021. Two years back, the competition returned as one of the eight global tournaments part of the 2024-31 cycle.

The report further reveals that several Cricket Boards have been surprised by this development and were unaware of the 2025 Champions Trophy qualification being at stake in this tournament. This qualification scenario also eliminates other Full-Member nations like West Indies, Zimbabwe and Ireland by missing the 2023 ODI World Cup.
