The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has postponed all the matches scheduled to take place in Israel over the next two weeks after the escalating conflicts in the region. Israel was slated to play against Switzerland on October 12, Thursday, in the European Championship 2024 qualifier. However, the match that was slated to take place at Tel Aviv's Bloomfield Stadium will not take place now.
Apart from the Euro 2024 qualifier, the European Under-21 Championship qualifiers against Estonia and Germany have also been impacted. The matches earlier scheduled on October 12 and 17 have also been postponed. Apart from that, an under-17 mini tournament has also been called a halt until October 17.
The governing body released a statement and informed about the same. The official statement read, “In light of the current security situation in Israel, UEFA has decided to postpone all matches scheduled in Israel in the next couple of weeks with new dates to be confirmed in due course.”
It further read, “UEFA reserves a few more days to assess whether the European Qualifiers 2024 match Kosovo – Israel can take place on the originally planned date of 15/10 or requires postponement. UEFA will continue to closely monitor the situation and will remain in contact with all teams involved before making decisions on new dates and on potential changes to other upcoming fixtures.”
Notably, Israel declared war on Sunday, October 8, after Hamas militants attacked the region.
