The US Open 2023 quarterfinal clash between Madison Keys and Marketa Vondrousova saw a delay of eight minutes. The nail-biting thriller between the American-Czech players was in the first game, when it was interrupted for a total of eight minutes on September 7, Thursday (IST) as a fan needed medical attention during the game. The game came to a halt when Keys was serving at deuce at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Tournament referee Jake Garner went out to check the person who was in lower-level stands, while the chair umpire announced that first aid responders were called. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old tennis star showed generosity and brought two fresh towels and a water bottle to where the person was seated.

Eventually, the spectator was carried out of the stands and the game resumed which saw the 2017 US Open runner-up, Keys, beat her opponent 6-1, 6-4 to cruise to the semifinals of the ongoing Grand Slam. The US Tennis Association later stated that the spectator already had a medical condition and he had fallen prey to the excessive heat conditions.

After her match, Rock Island-born tennis star said, " Obviously not how you want to start a match, but I feel like in situations like that I can’t really do many things other than offer towels and water.  I mean, it just felt like the right thing to do.”
