Indian wrester Vinesh Phogat can win a silver at the Paris Olympics 2024 after the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) reportedly accepted her protest. Notably, Phogat filed an appeal in the CAS following her disqualification from the women’s freestyle 50kg final at Paris Olympics 2024. After the shocking news of her retirement that India woke up to on August 8, the news of the wrestler’s chances of winning a silver provided some relief to fans back home.

It is to be noted that the Indian wrestler who was all set for her gold medal match on Wednesday, August 7, was found 100 grams over the weight limit during her second weigh-in. Hence, she was handed a disqualified result. The wrestler launched an appeal that she should be given the silver medal with the CAS accepting her request.

According to multiple media sources, the governing body has asked till August 8 to give its final verdict, and if it rules in the favour, then IOC will have to award a joint silver to Vinesh. Notably, Phogat had taken down Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the semifinal to advance into the final, where she was set to face USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt.
