Former India skipper and talismanic batter Virat Kohli started his preparations for the first Test against Australia. The cricketer was seen engaging in an intense net session at the WACA training pitches. Notably, India are set to tour Australia for the elite five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The first Test of the series will begin on November 22 at the Optus Stadium, Perth. Ahead of the series, the former India skipper landed in the Aussie land and began his practice session.
As per several reports, Kohli was one of the first Indian players who landed Down Under on Sunday. Speaking of the Indian team, a report in The West Australian states that, the team will play an intra-squad warm-up match from Friday, November 15, at the WACA but it won’t be open to the public. Generally, the net sessions at WACA are open to the public.
Virat Kohli’s stats against Australia ahead of Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
Virat Kohli has played a total of 25 Test matches and 44 innings against the Baggy Greens, where he has scored 2,042 runs. His highest score against the Kangaroos is 186 and averages 47.48 with a strike rate of 52.41. The Indian batter has registered eight centuries and five half-centuries against Australia during this period. Kohli’s previous experiences on Perth pitches are likely to offer him some familiarity or challenge.
During his first Test in 2012, Kohli scored 44 runs and 75 runs in the first and second innings. Later during his return in 2018, he came up with a stunning 123. Notably, the first set of Indian players arrived in Perth on Sunday, while the remaining members except Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, joined them on Monday.
