With the  IPL 2024  reaching the halfway stage, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star batter  Virat Kohli  has been handed a massive blow. The 35-year-old former RCB skipper Virat Kohli has been fined 50 per cent of the match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2024 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The Indian batter was involved in a heated altercation with the on-field umpires after his controversial dismissal. The incident took place in the third over of the RCB inning with Harshit Rana bowling slower wide, and later completing a catch. While Kohli was quick to go up to the third umpire as he thought the ball was above his waist. 

“Kohli committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the official statement read. 

Apart from the Virat Kohli, RCB skipper  Faf du Plessis  was also handed a fine for maintaining slow over-rate in match against KKR. As it was Faf du Plessis’ first offence of the season under IPL’s Code of Conduct, he was sanctioned INR 12 Lakh. 

The Faf du Plessis-led RCB will take on SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday, April 25.
