Legendary Aussie spinner Brad Hogg thinks that batsman Virat Kohli's failure was due to his inability to control his emotions when batting. His comment came ahead of the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series between Australia and India. Notably, despite the platform being specially designed for him, the star batsman was unable to deliver an impressive performance with the bat.

According to Hogg, Kohli appeared overly hostile and overanalyzed the issue. The result of the latest Test match against New Zealand in Pune also showed that the latter wasn't playing at his best, scoring just 1 and 17 in the two innings. With just one fifty and a best score of 70, Virat has amassed 245 runs at an average of 27.22 in five Test matches and 10 innings in 2024.

Team India took NZ too lightly: Brad Hogg on India's performance

Hogg, after analyzing India's batting and its overall performance, thinks that the Indian team took NZ too lightly. "They took New Zealand too lightly and they are trying to play catch-up cricket. All of a sudden, you saw that mindset shift with Virat Kohli in the first innings of the second Test. He was more aggressive, the way he strolled out there, the way that he was trying to attack the bowling. He looked as if he wasn't in control of his emotions," Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

"If you look at the technique of Rohit Sharma to Southee, he's going to have to be a little bit tighter. Virat Kohli has to switch on from ball one," Hogg further added.  After losing a home series for the first time in twelve years, team India is under pressure. Meanwhile, after defeating the World Test Championship leaders in a historic victory, New Zealand won a Test series in India for the first time. India and NZ will play their third Test from November 3 in Mumbai.

The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between Australia and India will take place in Perth on November 22. The second Test, which will take place at Adelaide Oval from December 6–10, will be a day-night format to be played beneath the stadium's lights. Following that, the third Test will take place at The Gabba in Brisbane from December 14 to 18.
