During the first T20I of the three-match series against Bangladesh, Abhishek Sharma, the Indian opening batter, ran himself after a misunderstanding with his partner Sanju Samson at the striker’s end. In pursuit of the 128-run target, Sharma and Samson had started their respective innings with few boundaries in powerplay, but their partnership was broken on the last ball of the second over with the Indian score on 25 runs.

It was a length delivery from Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed, to which Sanju Samson played a defensive stroke towards the mid-wicket region before taking a couple of steps outside of his crease. Abhishek Sharma, who was already off for the single, was turned down by Sanju Samson, and it led to Towhid Hridoy finding the bullseye at the non-striker’s end, to dismiss the left-handed batter for 16 off 7 with two fours and one maximum.

India restricted Bangladesh to 127 runs before the completion of their allotted overs in the first T20I

Earlier in the evening, the Indian bowlers delivered a very impressive performance with the ball at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, to restrict Bangladesh to a below par total of 127 all out in just 19.5 overs. Arshdeep Singh picked up three wickets for just 14 runs in his 3.5-over spell, while Varun Chakravarthy took three wickets on his return to the Indian team as well.

Before the start of play, at the toss time, Suryakumar Yadav had talked about how the pitch looked good at the new stadium, which prompted him to take the decision to field first. The Indian team management brought two debutants namely Mayank Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy in their playing XI against Bangladesh for the first T20I, with the former making an instant impact with the ball.
