Afghanistan completed a historic upset win over Pakistan after beating the Men in Green by eight wickets in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Chasing a massive 283-run total, the Afghan batters got off to a great start and carried through the innings to finish off the game. In the end it was the Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah, who hit the winning six.

As soon as the ball cross the boundary rope, celebrations broke out in the Afghanistan dressing room as the players jumped over each other rushed into the middle. Soon as their celebrations calmed down, the entire Afghani team took a victory lap thanking the crowd in Chennai's M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Ibrahim Zadran won the the Player of the Match award for his stunning knock of 87 runs which set up the chase perfectly for Afghanistan. Talking about his performance, Zadran expressed gratitude for this performance and expressed feeling proud for his country.
Speaking in the post-match interview, Zadran said, "Thankful that I performed well in this event. I wanted to play with a positive intent. Many times Gurbaz and I have done a brilliant partnership together. We have played a lot of cricket together, right from the Under-16 days. I am feeling very glad for myself and for my country."
