On Saturday, August 17, the captain of Al-Hilal, Salem Al-Dawsari, recreated the iconic victory celebration of Lionel Messi’s FIFA World Cup 2022 triumph with Argentina. The 32-year-old strutted his way towards the stage with the Saudi Super Cup trophy to celebrate the win with his teammates after Al-Hilal defeated Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr 4-1 in the final.
For the unversed, the Saudi Super Cup final was a tale of two halves as Al-Nassr went into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead after Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 44th minute. But the second half firmly belonged to Al-Hilal with their Serbian duo wreaking havoc in front of goal.
Sergei Milinkovic-Savic levelled the scores at 1-1 in the 55th minute for Al-Hilal before his countryman Alexsandar Mitrovic got two goals in the space of six minutes to turn the Saudi Super Cup final completely on its head. Malcolm made it 4-1 in favour of Al-Hilal in the 72nd minute with a splendid goal, to put the game firmly beyond the reach of Al-Nassr.
Apart from Cristiano Ronaldo’s team literally falling off a cliff in the second half, he had to endure Lionel Messi chants from the Al-Hilal fans at the Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Stadium in Abha, Saudi Arabia. After the final whistle, the Al-Hilal captain Salem Al-Dawsari also recreated the Lionel Messi celebration to rub salt into the wounds of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Moreover, the Saudi Pro League is scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 22, and in one of the opening day fixtures, Cristiano Ronaldo Al-Nassr will host Al-Raed at the Al-Awwal Park.
