During the first ODI of the three-match series between South Africa and India at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, the Indian left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh took the first five-wicket haul of his 50 overs career. The 24-year-old achieved this impressive feat in his fourth ODI career match, wherein he picked up his first wicket in the 50 overs format too.

In the first over of his spell against South Africa, Arshdeep Singh was on song with the ball in hand, scalping for Reeza Hendricks, who chopped the ball onto his stumps while playing away from his body. With that, the opening batter, who didn’t trouble the scorers, became the first wicket in the ODI cricketing career of the Indian T20I regular.

On the very next ball, he trapped Rassie van der Dussen in front of the stumps LBW, and the South Africa right-handed batter wasted a DRS on it. The next wicket for Arshdeep Singh was Tony de Zorzi (28 off 22), who was caught by the Indian captain KL Rahul with the gloves in hand after a failed attempt at executing an attacking pull stroke off a short ball.

Heinrich Klaasen (6 off 9) was the next scalp for Arshdeep Singh, getting bamboozled by the beautiful inswinging delivery, which took out the leg bail of his stumps. In the later stages of South Africa's innings, Andile Phehlukwayo (33 off 49) was trapped in front of the stumps off the bowling of Arshdeep Singh with the umpire raising his finger for an LBW, and the desperate DRS call from the left-handed batter went in vain.

Arshdeep Singh ended his 10-over spell with figures of 5/37, playing a key role in India bundling out South Africa for 116 runs within 28 overs.
