Bangladesh’s Fariha Trisna created history as she picked the second hat-trick of her career. With this, she became the only seventh bowler to pick up multiple hat-tricks in T20Is. Trisna achieved the feat during the second T20I of the three-match series against Australia on April 2 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. In the last over of Australia’s innings, the 21-year-old picked up three consecutive wickets of Ellyse Perry, Sophie Molineux, and Beth Mooney.
Trisna scalped the wickets off the last three deliveries of the innings and registered the fifth hat-trick in women’s cricket this year. The match started with the guests opting to bat on winning the toss. While the Kangaroos lost Phoebe Litchfield early, Grace Harris and Georgia Wareham stood by the team’s side and added 91 runs to the overall score. While Australia were already playing their shots and added more runs, the last over turned the tide of the game. When Perry smashed Trisna for a four, it landed directly in the hands of Shorna Akter. She then picked two more successive catches, to join Sri Lanka legend Lasith Malinga in a rare T20I club as she became the only seventh bowler to take multiple hat-tricks in T20Is.
Not only this, but she also became the third Bangladesh cricketer with an international hat-trick along with Rumana Ahmed and Fahima Khatun. Overall, Trisna picked four wickets, including that of Pheobe Litchfield. However, Bangladesh Women couldn’t come up with a solid batting performance and fell short of 58 runs to achieve the target of 161 runs set by their Aussie counterparts.
