Sri Lanka all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne is one of the most agile cricketers on the field. The all-rounder shows full commitment whenever he is on the field. But sometimes things don’t always go as planned. An example of this was seen during a match in Lanka Premier League 2022. Chamika Karunaratne injured himself while trying to take a catch.
Playing for Kandy Falcons against Galle Gladiators, Karunaratne went for a catch. There were two more fielders running for the ball but Karunaratne called for it to avoid a collision. But the Kandy Falcons fielder was not in total control. Although he managed to hold onto the catch, Chamika broke his four teeth in the process.
The video of the incident is also doing the rounds on the internet. In the video, it can be seen that Karunaratne took a blow on his face as the ball first fell on his mouth and then rolled into his arms. There was blood also seen coming out of the fielder’s mouth.
Karunaratne was then taken to the hospital after this bizarre incident. The Sri Lankan all-rounder will also have to undergo surgery.
Coming to the match, Kandy Falcons won it by five wickets as they chased down 122 with thirty balls to spare. Kamindu Mendis played a handy knock of 44 (34) and helped his team chase down an average total. Pathum Nissanka (22) and Andre Flecther (20) also chipped in. Earlier, Falcons restricted Gladiators to 121/8 as Carlos Brathwaite took four wickets. Zahoor Khan also scalped two wickets.
For Gladiators, Movin Subasingha starred as he scored a 38-ball 40. Imad Wasim also chipped in with a 39-ball 34. With the ball, Nuwan Pradeep took two wickets while Nuwan Thushara, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Pulina Tharanga took a wicket each.
