A group of climate change protestors invaded the invaded the Sebonack Golf Club in the Hamptons a week after the Open Championship 2023 was put on a high security alert. The activists raised banners with slogans like “Your Greed = Climate Chaos” written over them, causing disruption on the golf course on Wednesday, July 19.

Around 20 people protesting against fossil fuel and increased carbon emission invaded the golf course and were seen screaming at the golfers. One of the members of the club that identifies themselves as Planet Over Profit were heard screaming, "That was terrible! That was the worst swing I have ever seen. You paid a million dollars to hit like that!?”

Not only this, but the club was also heard saying, “We need clean air, not another millionaire.” The activist club tweeted informing about the protests, saying, “We took over the wealthiest Hamptons golf course this morning. Here, they pay a MILLION dollar membership fee to play the world's stupidest and most ecocidal game. It's disgusting how the billionaires who destroy our planet for business come here and do it for pleasure.”
Notably, ahead of The Open, R&A’s CEO Martin Slumbers said, “I think you’re aware that there was direct intelligence last year, and most people in this room don’t know that The Open was targeted last year. We have significant security procedures in place. We work clearly with the law enforcement agencies, and we’ll wait and see what happens.”
He had added, "You will have seen that we advised the players, please don’t get involved, and I stand by that. We have enough things in place to be able to deal with it.”
