The Jasprit Bumrah-led Men in Blue registered a two-run win over Ireland in the first T20I of the three-match series on Friday, August 18. The Men in Blue, who were chasing a target of 140 set by Paul Stirling’s men, got an early advantage as rain played a spoilsport with match halting after only 6.5 overs of India innings.

However, in the seventh over of the India innings, Irish bowler Craig Young sent back Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma on consecutive deliveries. On the second ball of his over, Young bowled a short ball with Jaiswal ending up slicing the ball and skipper Stirling taking an easy catch. On the very next delivery, Varma nicked the ball with an edge as Tucker dived towards his right to complete a brilliant catch, giving Young two-in-two.

Talking about the match, Jasprit Bumrah-led Team India won the toss and invited Ireland to bat first. Barry McCarthy top-scored for the side with an unbeaten 51 off 33 deliveries to put 140-run target on the board. Skipper Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna and Ravi Bishnoi were all among the wickets, scalping two each whereas Arshdeep Singh finished with 1/35.
On the other hand, India dominated in the first T20I after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad helped the side put up 40-plus runs inside the powerplay, giving a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. The two sides will next play on August 20 at The Village in Dublin with the final T20I scheduled for August 23.
