England white-ball skipper and Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler has decided to change his first name from “Jos” to Josh Buttler after enduring years of being called the wrong name. Buttler shared his message in a video posted by the social media handle of The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The clip had the caption ‘official statement,’ the 2022 T20 World Cup winning captain is seen fed up with the wrong pronunciation of his first name over the years. In the end, he decides to solve the problem once and for all, changing his name to Josh Buttler.
In the video, Buttler said, “Hi there. I’m England white-ball captain Jos Buttler. But for my entire life, I’ve been called the wrong name. From people on the street to my mum, and in my birthday card. Dear Josh, you’re getting old. Happy birthday. Lots of love, Mum.”
Adding to it, he exclaimed, “Even my MBE was wrong. So, after 13 years representing my country and two World Cup wins, it’s time to finally fix the problem. To solve the problem once and for all, I am officially Josh Buttler.”
The Rajasthan Royals opener, who has scored 2718 runs in the 74 matches he has played for the Pink outfits is likely to debut with his new name against the Mumbai Indians on April 1 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Buttler has also been a part of two World Cup-winning England teams, the first in ODI World Cup winning squad in 2019 followed by the 2022 T20 World Cup team where he led the outfit for the first time in an ICC event.
Although April 1 is celebrated as April Fools Day, the recent developments might be the April Fools gift from the English cricket board to the fans of Buttler and England cricket.
