With his move to Liverpool's direct Premier League rivals Chelsea in 2011, he became the direct enemy in the eyes of "The Reds" supporters. He, however, went on to clinch the Champions League title for Chelsea.

The relationship between him and Liverpool went on to improve over the years as he even returned to Anfield for an all-star charity event in 2015. During his arrival at the home of Liverpool, he received a warm welcome from the fans and supporters of the Reds.
