The inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket is nearing a crucial stage as teams fight for a place in the playoffs, eyeing to lift the inaugural title. Match 11 of the tournament which was played between Washington Freedom and San Francisco Unicorns saw the former win by 30 runs to seal the Qualifiers berth. The match was no less than an entertainer as Glenn Phillips and Chaitanya Bishnoi pulled off some brilliant wickets.

Washington Freedom put 133/8 on board after being invited to bat first by the San Francisco Unicorns. But as soon as Unicorns took the field to chase the score of 134, the Aaron Finch-led side were handed the first blow in the third over of the inning. On the second delivery of the third over, Glenn Phillips pulled off a brilliant catch to dismiss opener Finn Allen. Allen sliced the ball behind square and with area looking like a no-man’s land, Glenn Phillips came backwards running to jump and complete a Superman-like catch.

The New Zealand all-rounder covered a distance from cover point to square to complete a stunner to dismiss his countryman Finn Allen back to pavilion at the score of 13.

Chaitanya Bishnoi pulls off a direct hit

In the first inning with Washington Freedom reeling at 28/1 after four overs, Chaitanya Bishnoi of Unicorns pulled off a brilliant direct hit to send Matthew Short. In what looked a brainfade moment for Short, the Aussie nipped a fuller length and started running not knowing where the ball landed.

Till the time Short could reach the crease, Bishnoi collected the ball well in time and aimed at the non-strikers end, inflicting a brilliant run-out, sending Short at the score of 5 off 10 deliveries.

While the Washington Freedom will next play MI New York at the Church Street Park on July 24, Aaron Finch-led San Francisco Unicorns will take on Faf du Plessis’ Texas Super Kings on July 25 in Morrisville.
