Rapper Ice Cube recently went on a rant about the NBA and their ‘hypocrisy’ in promoting equality but not supporting black-owned businesses like his Big3 league. According to Ice Cube, NBA commissioner Adam Silver has actively tried to sabotage his Big3 league, as he views it as competition for the NBA. The Big3 is a startup league focussed on 3-on-3 basketball and features former NBA and international players.

The iconic rapper says that while the NBA talks big about equality and ‘Black Lives Matter’, the company won’t support a black-owned business nor do anything tangible outside of promoting slogans. Ice Cube then mocks NBA commissioner Adam Silver for his law background, questioning his investment and credentials in basketball when he doesn’t have any experience playing professional sports.

Speaking to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Ice Cube said, “I'm just saying it's easy for them to put that on the court. It takes a little more effort to really care to work with a league like the BIG3. You really gotta want to make a difference.”

Ice Cube Adam Silver feud continues

This is just the latest installment in a prolonged feud between Ice Cube and Adam Silver that has gone on for months, with the rapper convinced that Silver is out to sabotage his 3 on 3 leagues. On the Dan LeBatard show the rapper said that the league is facing issues of funding because the NBA has bylaws that prevent team owners from investing in Big3, though he also stated that a major MLB investor would be announced soon.

Ice Cube has gone on record saying that he doesn’t necessarily want to work with the NBA but that he hopes the league will stop trying to sabotage Big3.

The Big3 League was founded by Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz and consists of 12 teams with former NBA and Euroleague players. In 2020 Big3 announced that its ruleset would form the foundation of a new variation of basketball called Fireball3.
