Ishan Kishan, the Indian wicket-keeper batter, who is the newest recruit of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), batted exceptionally well in the intra-squad practice matches ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The left-hander scored back-to-back fifties in the practice matches, outshining all the other batters in the SRH lineup, to best portray his intention about bringing the heat to the IPL this year after a tumultuous last 12 months or so.
Notably, after getting sidelined from international cricket in early 2024, Ishan Kishan had a difficult season with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL, following which they released him ahead of the mega auction. The Jharkhand-born cricketer scored 320 runs at an average of 22.85 and a strike-rate of 148.83 in the IPL 2024, but considering his better returns in the two seasons prior, it wasn’t something he would be quite happy about
Following that, SRH shelled out INR 11.25 Crore, to sign the Indian international, to add strength and depth to their batting lineup, which was quite exceptional in taking them to the final of the tournament last year.
Ishan Kishan will be playing for his third team in the IPL in 2025 after being a part of GT and MI
During the first practice match of SRH, Ishan Kishan scored 64 runs in just 24 balls while batting alongside Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order, and he followed it up with an unbeaten 73 off 30. The left-handed batter looked in ominous touch with the bat, taking down the pacers and spinners with ease, which could be a sign of things to come in the IPL season, starting later this month.

In their opening match of the IPL 2025 season, SRH will be taking on RR at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday, March 23, which will be an afternoon fixture. The same fixture last year was more than just a humdinger as Hyderabad were able to defeat Rajasthan by a single run, and it could turn out to be the exact same kind of fixture this season.
