On Friday, November 15, American YouTuber-turned boxer Jake Paul, 27, defeated former heavyweight champion of the world Mike Tyson, 58, by a unanimous decision in a Netflix boxing event from AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Following his dominating victory, which saw the three judges scoring 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73, Jake Paul saluted Mike Tyson inside the squared circle before calling him the ‘GOAT’ in the post-match interview.
The main event on the Netflix special was sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul fought in eight two-minute rounds in the heavyweight division. While this bout stirred up massive interest in the boxing community, there was a clear difference in the speed and agility between both the boxers due to the massive age disparity between them.
He’s the greatest to ever do it. He’s the GOAT, he’s a legend: Jake Paul to Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson did land a few punches, but it was Jake Paul who dominated him with his faster movement inside the squared circle. After Paul got the better of Tyson, he saluted him before both of them shook hands, and following that, the Problem Child hailed the legendary boxer in the post-match interview, and said, “First and foremost, Mike Tyson, it’s such an honour. Let’s give it up for Mike.”
“He’s (Mike Tyson) the greatest to ever do it. He’s the GOAT, he’s a legend. I’m inspired by him and we wouldn’t be here today without him. This man is an icon and it’s just an honour to be able to fight him. He’s obviously the toughest, baddest man on the planet; it was really tough like I expected it to be,” Jake Paul added.
Mike Tyson was quite satisfied about his performance despite suffering a tough defeat at the hands of Jake Paul, and said, “I came to fight. I didn’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself. I’m just happy with what I can do.” He also wasn’t giving an excuse of fighting with a right knee brace, and remarked, “I can’t use that as an excuse. If I did I wouldn’t be in here. He’s a very good fighter.”
